2nd May 2021 – (Hong Kong) As the summer approaches, it would be nice to enjoy some water sports in Hong Kong. As most countries are currently in lockdown mode, we would suggest you try canoeing while enjoying the mangroves in Tai Po. The site is a coastal area near Ting Kok Village, Tai Po. This mangrove covers an area of about seven hectares, and supports a rich diversity of mangroves and associated fauna. This is one of the few sites in Hong Kong where a large population of Lumnitzera racemosa can be found. The substratum here is coarse and of high salinity, as a result of which most mangrove plants here are stunted.
Holimood is one of the local companies that provide training and canoes for you to explore the mangroves. The trip will cover mangroves near Ting Kok Village, Sam Mun Tsai and Ma Shi Chau. The fees cover insurance, training equipment and instructor’s cost.
