11th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) A Facebook user going by the name of Yuki Chan recently posted in a Facebook group about receiving a debt letter from Public Finance Limited shortly after her foreign domestic helper had left for a month. In her post, she asked for help from fellow netizens. One netizen replied to her post, saying, “There’s no need to panic. Be calm and stay assured. The finance company won’t come knocking on your door. You should have notified the immigration department of the end of your contract. If you have a confirmation letter from the immigration department, send it to the finance company. They’ll know that the worker has left, and you won’t receive any more letters.” Another user suggested sending a Notice of Termination to the finance company as proof that the worker has left.
In situations like these, it’s important to remain level-headed and follow the proper procedures. The netizen’s advice to notify the immigration department and provide the confirmation letter to the finance company is a sound one. It’s also wise to keep records of all communication and documentation related to the employment of foreign domestic helpers.
