Employees of Swire Coca-Cola Hong Kong launches second-stage industrial action

29th May 2021 – (Hong Kong) The Swire Beverages (Hong Kong) Employees General Union launched an industrial action yesterday (28th), and about 30 employees from the sales department of Swire Coca-Cola Hong Kong went to the company’s entrance to protest against the company taking advantage of the epidemic and forcing its employees to accept a significant salary reduction. However, after the trade union negotiated with the company yesterday, the company’s attitude remained unfettered. The trade union announced that the negotiations had broken down, and today (29th) together with other departments, they have launched a second-stage industrial action, strongly requesting the company to face the demands of employees squarely.

The union criticised the company for being unscrupulous, taking advantage of the epidemic, and demanding that the company retain its original remuneration mechanism and disclose detailed commission calculation methods.

According to the union, under the new system, employees set the capped salary at HK$17,000 resulting in failure of many employees’ years of service being reflected in their salary. In addition, the new system consolidates the basic salary level at HK$10,000, which in a disguised way makes seasoned employees and the basic salary of new staff equal.
