21st April 2024 – (Hong Kong) Uurgent repairs are being conducted on the platform canopy of the University Station’s platform 1, which serves trains bound for Ma On Shan. As a result, trains operating on the line are temporarily using platform 2 (bound for Hung Hom) for passenger boarding and alighting. Commuters travelling between Admiralty and Lok Ma Chau or Lok Ma Chau and Tuen Mun should anticipate an additional travel time of 3 to 5 minutes for their overall journey.

According to reports, during today’s thunderstorm, the canopy covering the approximately 25-meter-long northbound platform at University Station is believed to have been destroyed by strong winds, leaving the area exposed to the elements. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result.

The MTR Corporation subsequently announced that the emergency maintenance work has been successfully completed, and the train services on the East Rail Line are gradually returning to normal.
