8th August 2025 – (Hong Kong) At 7.56pmpm today, a 5.5-tonne lorry struck an elderly woman as it turned from Shung Ling Street into Yi Lun Street in San Po Kong. The 80-year-old woman, known as Chu, fell to the ground and sustained head injuries. Paramedics arrived promptly and transported her to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Images shared online show the woman lying on the ground with blood on her face, accompanied by an umbrella, as a bystander assisted her. Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident.
Reports indicate that Chu is a well-known figure in the area. She is often seen pushing a cart loaded with cardboard, soliciting money from passersby while claiming to have no food. Despite her circumstances, some media outlets have reported that she comes from a relatively affluent background and owns property.
