10th June 2023 – (Hong Kong) A 70-year-old woman from Hong Kong was caught attempting to smuggle a large quantity of mobile phones through the Hong Kong-Macau border checkpoint. The incident occurred when she was on her way to mainland China, and was discovered by authorities during a routine inspection. The woman had bound the phones to her waist and thighs in an attempt to smuggle them through undetected.
Upon being questioned by law enforcement officials, the woman produced another individual’s identity document, which did not match her appearance. However, after a further investigation, it was discovered that the woman had intentionally used a stolen identity to evade responsibility for her actions.
The authorities seized 46 used mobile phones during the incident. The suspect has since admitted to her involvement in the smuggling operation, and has been arrested and charged with the crime. The case has been referred to the prosecutor’s office for further processing.
