25th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) At around 11pm yesterday, a 70-year-old man was hit by an empty taxi while crossing the intersection of Cheung Wah Street and Cheung Sha Wan Road in Hong Kong. The victim was thrown onto the windscreen before falling to the ground, bleeding from his head and unconscious. A South Asian motorcyclist passing by saw the situation and immediately stopped to help report the incident.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and transported the injured victim to Caritas Medical Centre for emergency treatment, before being transferred to the Princess Margaret Hospital for further medical treatment. At the scene of the accident, there was a long “blood trail,” a blood-stained mask, and an umbrella left behind. The taxi involved in the accident had a dented hood and a shattered windshield, but the driver, surnamed Chan and 79 years old, was unharmed.
After a preliminary investigation, law enforcement officials arrested Chan on suspicion of “dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to others.” He is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
