Eight defendants sentenced to up to 3 years and 9 months in prison for participating in 2019 Central “Lunch with You” protest


2nd March 2024 – (Hong KOng) In November 2019, a demonstration called “Lunch with You” took place in the Central district of Hong Kong, which escalated into road blockages and clashes. During the incident, numerous arrests were made, and eight individuals were charged with rioting. Among them, five defendants were also charged with violating the “Anti-Mask Law,” and they were found guilty of both rioting and wearing masks. Today, in the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court, the eight defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 2 years and 9 months to 3 years and 9 months.

According to the case, they were accused of participating in the riot on 12th November, 2019, at the intersection of Pedder Street, Des Voeux Road Central, and Connaught Road Central in the Central district. They were also charged with using masks during an unauthorised assembly.
