30th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Education Bureau (EDB) issued a reminder to parents today, 30th May, regarding the impending announcement of the Central Allocation results for Primary One Admission (POA) 2024. The results will be dispatched via mail to parents on the following Wednesday and Thursday, 5th and 6th June.

According to an EDB spokesperson, a total of 19,204 children participated in the Primary One Central Allocation 2024. Out of these, 16,083 children were successfully allocated to schools that were among their top three choices. Taking into account discretionary places and the number of children allocated to schools from their preferred selection, the overall satisfaction rate stands at an impressive 92.2 per cent.

The Central Allocation process for POA consists of two parts. Part A comprises 10 per cent of the available places, which are not restricted by school nets, allowing parents to choose up to three schools from any school net. The remaining 90 per cent of places fall under Part B, requiring parents to select schools from the school net/Choice of Schools List corresponding to the applicant’s child. Of the places allocated through Central Allocation, 2,149 are under Part A and 17,055 are under Part B.

Parents who completed the Choice of Schools Form for Central Allocation on or before January 28 of this year will receive the Primary One Registration Form via the Local CourierPost service provided by Hongkong Post, commencing from June 5 and 6. In the event that door delivery by Hongkong Post fails, a Mail Collection Notification Card will be left for parents, indicating the designated post office where they can collect the form starting from the next working day afternoon. Should parents not receive the Primary One Registration Form or the Mail Collection Notification Card by June 7, they have the option to collect the form from the designated collection centre on June 8 and 9 (for detailed information, please refer to the EDB’s POA System webpage).

Parents who have provided a mobile phone number on the Choice of Schools Form and consented to receive the Central Allocation results via SMS will receive their applicant children’s results on June 5. Additionally, parents who have already activated their POA e-Platform (ePOA) account via “iAM Smart” or “iAM Smart+” (www.iamsmart.gov.hk/en/reg.html) can conveniently check the Central Allocation results through the ePOA starting from 10 a.m. on June 5. Detailed information on activating and logging into an ePOA account, as well as checking the allocation results via the e-Platform, can be found on the EDB homepage under the related videos and Parents’ Guide section.

Registration of pupils is a crucial step that parents must undertake. It is mandatory to register their child with the school allocated between June 11 and 13 (Tuesday to Thursday) during school hours.

The EDB spokesperson emphasized that parents facing extraordinary circumstances preventing them from registering their child on the specified dates should inform the relevant registration personnel at the allocated school beforehand, allowing for alternative arrangements. Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of the allocated school place.

In cases where parents decide to relinquish the allocated place due to special circumstances, such as relocating to a distant district from the school allotted, they should refrain from registering their child with the assigned school. Instead, they are advised to visit the EDB’s School Places Allocation Section, located at Podium Floor, West Block, Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre, 19 Suffolk Road, Kowloon Tong, Kowloon, to make the necessary transfer arrangements. It is important to bring along the Primary One Registration Form, along with the original and copies of documents providing proof of the new address, such as a rental contract, rates demand notes, or utility bills bearing the parent or guardian’s name.

Parents considering transferring their child to another school after registration are strongly advised to obtain confirmation of acceptance from the intended school before retrieving the Primary One Registration Form from the original school. Retrieving the registration form signifies the cancellation of the allocated school place.

In the event of inclement weather or other exceptional circumstances during the result announcement period or on designated registration days, parents are urged to stay tuned to radio and television broadcasts for any special arrangements regarding Central Allocation or registration.

For general inquiries regarding POA procedures, parents can contact the EDB’s 24-hour automatic telephone enquiry service at 2891 0088. Further inquiries can be directed to the School Places Allocation Section during office hours at 2832 7610 (for Hong Kong Island and Islands), 2832 7620 (for Kowloon), 2832 7635 (for New Territories West), 2832 7659 (for New Territories East), and 2832 7700/2832 7740 (for general inquiries).
