23rd May 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Doraemon franchise is set to hold its largest exhibition, the 100% Doraemon & Friends Tour, in Hong Kong starting in July. Prior to the exhibition, the organiser will host the world’s first Doraemon drone show on Saturday, 25th May, along the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui at 7.30pm. This event has been included in the list of significant events by the Hong Kong government.

S.K. Lam, the curator of the exhibition, mentioned on a radio program that the preparations for this exhibition have taken more than two years. They did not consider whether the government would include it as a significant event, but they would be pleased if the exhibition contributes to the local economy. Hong Kong was chosen as the first stop for the exhibition due to the tremendous success of a previous Doraemon exhibition held in the city 12 years ago, which attracted fans of all ages and had a positive impact on the local economy. The organiser expressed gratitude to Hong Kong and its fans for their support.

In the past exhibition held in Tsim Sha Tsui 12 years ago, numerous Doraemon figures were displayed, and the response exceeded expectations. The fan base spans across different generations and attracted many tourists. The exhibition also had successful runs in 16 other cities.

When discussing the tour with the Japanese side, the organiser considered other locations such as Japan, Thailand, and mainland China. However, they highlighted that Hong Kong’s international nature was an advantage. They hope that the Doraemon drone show on Saturday will bring surprises and gifts to Hong Kong. Local voice actors have been engaged to add dialogue and increase the fun factor. It is expected that there will be a significant number of local fans attending the event, and overseas fans are also anticipated to attend and be among the first to experience it.
