29th March 2023 – (Singapore) According to CNA, Mickey and friends are coming to Singapore, as Disney Cruise Line announced that the city-state will be the exclusive home port for its new vessel. The partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) will see the yet-to-be-named ship call Singapore home for at least five years from 2025.

The new ship will be the largest in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, with an estimated passenger capacity of about 6,000 and approximately 2,300 crew members. It will also be the largest cruise ship to dock in Singapore’s shores, according to Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations S Iswaran.

The ship is currently under construction at a shipyard in Germany, managed by Meyer Werft, the same company that built three other Disney Cruise Line vessels.

In an effort to reduce emissions, the 208,000-gross-ton ship will be among the first in the cruise industry to be powered by green methanol, one of the lowest-emission fuels available.

“Disney Cruise Line’s decision to home port in Singapore affirms our position as the region’s premier cruise hub and major player in cruise tourism,” said Minister Iswaran. “It speaks volumes of our region’s significant potential for cruise tourism, and to become, as some have described it, the Caribbean of the East.”

The new vessel will offer passengers the signature Disney experience, including themed restaurants, Broadway-style shows with interactive characters, and Disney kid clubs. The ship will also feature Mickey Mouse-inspired colors and signature red funnels.

More information about the maiden voyage, itineraries, and onboard experiences will be announced at a later date. The expansion of Disney Cruise Line comes as the company celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2023 and undergoes an “ambitious expansion” with new ships and destinations around the world, according to Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro.
