10th July 2024 – (Takamatsu) A Hong Kong passenger allegedly caused a disturbance at Takamatsu Airport in Japan, refusing to have his carry-on luggage measured as per airline regulations.

The incident, which was captured in a video that has gone viral on social media, shows the Hong Kong man, dressed in a white shirt, repeatedly yelling at the ground staff in Cantonese-accented Mandarin, demanding that they help him with his luggage. The ground staff, dressed in a black uniform, can be heard calmly explaining to the passenger that he needs to have his luggage measured and tagged before being allowed to board the plane.

According to the social media post, the passenger had already had his luggage measured during his departure from Hong Kong to Japan, but refused to do so again at the Japanese airport. This led to a heated exchange, with the passenger even attempting to forcibly remove the luggage measurement stand from the counter.

The post further details that the passenger ended up “forcefully jamming” his luggage into the measurement frame, rendering it unable to be removed. The ground staff then had to call the police to intervene and assist with the situation.

The incident has sparked outrage among netizens, with many criticizing the passenger’s behavior and praising the ground staff for their professionalism and patience in handling the confrontation. Comments on the post range from labeling the passenger as “embarrassing” and “bringing shame to Hong Kong” to calling for him to be banned from future flights.

One commenter even recognized the ground staff, commending her for her “high emotional intelligence” in the face of the passenger’s unruly behavior.
