Department of Justice clarifies resignation of prosecutor amid social media speculation

2nd March 2024 – (Hong Kong) In response to recent media queries regarding the resignation of a prosecutor from the Department of Justice (DoJ), a spokesperson for the DoJ addressed the issue today.

The DoJ acknowledged the circulation of news on social media regarding the prosecutor’s resignation and the mention of their appearance on a purported “sanctions” list created by members of the United States Congress, allegedly as a form of intimidation. However, the DoJ typically refrains from commenting on the movements of individual officers. In this case, however, the DoJ has decided to clarify the situation and set the record straight.

According to the DoJ spokesperson, the concerned officer submitted their resignation in September of last year, prior to the release of the aforementioned list in November. Therefore, any connection between the resignation and the so-called list of sanctions is unfounded.
