25th March 2023 – (New York) A letter containing a death threat and white powder was reportedly addressed to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. According to U.S. media outlets, a note inside the envelope threatened Bragg’s life, while a small amount of white powder was also found. Despite the incident, law enforcement officials have confirmed that there were no injuries or evacuations.
In response to the incident, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office issued a statement confirming that the letter had been “immediately contained”. It was also revealed that the substance found in the envelope was not dangerous.
The incident comes as Alvin Bragg and his team investigate former US President Donald Trump’s alleged involvement in a hush-money payment made to an adult film actress prior to the 2016 presidential election. Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing and accused the inquiry, led by Bragg, of being politically motivated.
Following news of the incident, Trump took to social media to issue a warning, suggesting that if he were to be indicted, it could result in “potential death and destruction”. The possibility of Trump being indicted is being closely watched, as no former US president has ever faced criminal charges.
The investigation into Trump’s alleged involvement in the hush-money payment is just one aspect of a wider investigation into the former president’s business dealings. Bragg has stated that his focus is on Trump’s role in the matter, rather than the broader investigation.
The incident has raised concerns about political motivations behind the investigation. Trump has previously accused Democrats of using the investigation to try and undermine his presidency, while supporters of Bragg have suggested that he is simply doing his job as a prosecutor.
Despite the incident, the investigation into Trump’s alleged involvement in the hush-money payment is ongoing. Bragg has stated that he is committed to uncovering the truth, regardless of the political fallout.
