Dang Wen li by Dominique Ansel to open its new bakery and cafe in Harbour City from 7th January onwards

A classic cha chaan teng isn’t complete without a fluffy, golden pineapple bun stuffed with a slab of salted butter. An iconic breakfast all over HK, Chef Dominique has transformed this morning staple into a Dang Wen Li exclusive: their Pineapple Bun with coconut dacquoise, salted mascarpone cream, coconut mousse, almond marzipan, and tropical pineapple lime and passionfruit jam at the center.

3rd January 2020 – (Hong Kong) Dang Wen li by Dominique Ansel is set to open its doors to its fan on 7th January in Harbour City. There are 35 seats inside the cafe occupying a total space of 1,600sqf.

The new shop 當文歷餅店 – a transliteration of “Dominique” in Cantonese, showing Chef’s tribute to the culture of Hong Kong – and will feature a capsule collection of brand new pastries created exclusively for Hong Kong, as well as made-to-order specialties and classic French viennoiserie.

“I’m thrilled to be creating something unique just for the people in Hong Kong that celebrates their culture, their traditions, their tastes,” says Chef Dominique. “It’s been a wonderful discovery building and creating Dang Wen Li, and in a sense finding my own Hong Kong identity.”

The menu will feature:

• Innovative Desserts Exclusive to Hong Kong – brand new pastries made just for Hong Konginspired by local traditions and iconic classics reimagined, like the “Lemon Juice Box” (a nostalgic nod to childhood memories filled with bergamot curd and earl grey mascarpone mousse), and the “Pineapple Bun” (transformed into a coconut mousse “bun” filled with pineapple lime passionfruit jam).

• Made-to-Order Specialties – a selection of desserts made or finished à la minute, taking just a few minutes to make fresh for each guest, such as Red Bean Ice Cream “Fish Balls” torched to order until caramelized.

• Classic French Viennoiserie – showcasing the artisanal craftsmanship of traditional French viennoiserie baked fresh each morning, from flaky croissants to the DKA (Dominique’s Kouign Amann), Chef Dominique’s signature version of the Breton classic.

A menu of savory items, as well as coffees and teas, will also be available daily.

Black & White Panna Cotta

Customers should also try their Black & White Panna Cotta with salted caramel panna cotta with a rum-soaked baba cake at the center, set within a white chocolate “can” that mimics the black & white evaporated milk cans often seen in local teahouses.

Also not to be missed are their Hong Kong Milk Tea Cookie Shot, another new creation they have developed for the Hong Kong menu. They gave their classic Cookie Shot a local update, with a brown sugar cookie “cup”, and this time it’s filled to order with milk tea and topped with a chocolate lid. Sip the milk tea, then enjoy the cookie!
