23rd June 2022 – (Hong Kong) Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health announced at 4.30pm today that there were 128 imported cases and 1,522 local COVID-19 cases today comprising 559 confirmed via nucleic acid tests and 963 cases confirmed via Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) online declaration platform. Total cases recorded today are 1,650.
Total accumulated COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong have reached 1,219,675.
Among the 128 imported cases, 48 cases were found at Temporary sampling centre at the airport while 63 cases were found at designated quarantine hotels. 17 cases were identified after the completion of the quarantine period.
4 positive cases (including 2 employees and 2 residents) were reported in 4 residential care homes for the elderly respectively.
Meanwhile, 172 more new cases (135 students and 37 teaching staff) were recorded in 155 schools.
38 new local cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 were recorded today. There were four cases found earlier at C.C.C. Kei Wan Primary School (Aldrich Bay). A family of three lives in Man On House, Wan Chai, and a patient works in Tseung Kwan O Service Centre.
25 cases including 24 customers and 1 family member of a customer were recorded during a cluster outbreak in Victoria Harbour Restaurant at Shop 312 ,L3 ,Chelsea Heights ,Shek Pai Tau Path, Tuen Mun, New Territories on 16th June. At least 27 persons were subsequently infected including 7 to 8 families. They are suspected to be infected with Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1.
A total of 9,185 patients have passed away since the beginning of fifth wave and one new death was reported by Health Authority yesterday.
Dr. Sara Ho from the Hospital Authority said that more than 513 patients were still being hospitalised. No new patients were reported in critical condition and serious condition. A 80-year-old male patient who received 2 vaccination doses has passed away. The patient suffered from chronic illnesses.
A total of 70 patients have recovered and 58 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. 4 new cases were detected during admission screening. 4 patients in the same ward were listed as close contacts.
Meanwhile, 23,985 employees under Hospital Authority have tested positive for COVID-19. 23,812 of them have returned to work after recovering.
