Customs seizes HK$5 million worth of suspected heroin and cannabis at airport, 2 passengers arrested

17th June 2024 – (Hong Kong) In the first incident, a 48-year-old female passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Bangkok, Thailand. During the customs clearance process, officers discovered a concealed stash of suspected cannabis buds weighing approximately 2.1 kilograms. The illegal substances were ingeniously hidden within eight packs of snacks inside her checked-in luggage. Immediate action was taken, and the woman was promptly arrested.

The second case involves a 37-year-old male passenger who arrived in Hong Kong from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Customs officers, during the clearance procedure, uncovered approximately 5.3 kilograms of suspected heroin discreetly concealed within three food packaging boxes within the individual’s checked-in baggage. Consequently, he was apprehended and taken into custody.

Both individuals have been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. Their cases are scheduled to be presented at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on 18th June.
