Crane operator dies after being by snapped steel cable at West Kowloon Cultural District

24th January 2022 – (Hong Kong) A fatal industrial accident occurred in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Tsim Sha Tsui. At 4.10pm this afternoon (24th), a male worker surnamed Ho (67 years old) at a construction site on the above site was operating a crane to lift objects before steel cable suddenly snapped. He was hit in the chest and throat before falling into a coma.

Other workers called the police. The ambulance rushed the victim to the hospital but unfortunately he died of his injuries. It is understood that he is a crane operator and has been working at the site in question since July last year. Police arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. The Labour Department said that it dispatched personnel to the scene immediately after receiving the report, and is now investigating the cause of the accident.
