22nd March 2020 – (Italy) Total worldwide COVID-19 cases have reached 318,410 as of 10.30pm today with 13,420 new cases. The total death toll stands at 13,671as of 10.30pm today.
Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) could be “overwhelmed” by the coronavirus like the Italian health system in just two weeks, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has warned in the face of rising numbers of deaths.
A doctor in France died from coronavirus on Saturday night. The number currently stands at 14,459, with 562 confirmed deaths.
The number of coronavirus cases in Germany has increased to 23,937 with 93 deaths.
Spain extends state of emergency for another 15 days. The Spanish government said on Saturday it would do whatever was needed to combat the coronavirus pandemic and warned that “the worst is yet to come” after the national toll surpassed 1,300 deaths and reached 28,572 cases.

China and Hong Kong
All passengers arriving into Shanghai from abroad will be tested for the coronavirus, Shanghai’s Health Commission announced on Sunday. All international flights to Beijing will be diverted to other cities in China starting Monday.
Hong Kong reported 44 more coronavirus cases, bringing total to 317. Four from Mount Kelly International School, four who partied at Lan Kwai Fong and a musician who works at different clubs were amongst the newly infected cases.
Elsewhere in the world
The Russian military will start sending medical help to Italy from Sunday in order to help it battle the new coronavirus after receiving an order from President Vladimir Putin, Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Unemployment in Israel surged to 16.5%, up from around 4% before the coronavirus outbreak began.
Malaysia reported 123 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the total to 1,306 cases, with 10 deaths. Malaysia has the highest number of cases in Southeast Asia. Thailand reported 188 new coronavirus cases today, marking the largest single-day increase since the outbreak began. It has 599 confirmed cases. The majority of the new infections are connected to a previous cluster of cases from a boxing stadium, Taweesin Wisanuyothin. Most of the new cases were found in Bangkok and were among young people who continue to have social activities, which can lead to more infections.
Taiwan will stop airline passengers transiting through Taiwan from 24th March until 7th April to help control the spread of the coronavirus, the government said on Sunday. The government separately announced 16 new cases, bringing the total to 169.
India started 14-hour curfew to curb coronavirus spread. More than 391 people have contracted coronavirus in India. El Salvador also began a 30-day nationwide coronavirus curfew.
