COVID-19 outbreak involving 14 patients detected in geriatric infirmary ward at Ruttonjee Hospital

4th July 2024 – (Hong Kong) Fourteen patients, comprising twelve male and two female individuals aged between 33 and 88, have tested positive for COVID-19 and have been experiencing fever since 27th June. These cases were identified in a geriatric infirmary ward at Ruttonjee Hospital. Currently, all infected patients are receiving treatment in cohort isolation and are reported to be in stable condition. Additionally, a staff member working in the same ward developed a fever and cough on 30th June, subsequently testing positive for COVID-19. The staff member’s condition is also stable.

As a precautionary measure, the admission of new patients to the affected ward has been temporarily suspended, and strict restrictions have been implemented on visiting. Rigorous cleaning and disinfection protocols have been diligently carried out within the ward. Moreover, the hospital has reinforced infection control measures in accordance with established guidelines.

Continuous monitoring of the patients’ conditions is being conducted by the hospital. The cases have been promptly reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for further investigation and necessary actions.
