COVID-19 infected male tutor in Taiwan had sex with 5 people 6 times in 5 different hotel rooms causing cluster outbreak

19th July 2021- (Taichung) A 30-year-old male tutor from Taichung (Case No. 15368) was diagnosed with COVID-19 on 12th July. The cluster outbreak spread to Changhua County, Taipei and New Taipei City and due to his active social activities. His close contacts expanded from 3 to 64 in total. At present, 58 people have been tested negative and 4 people are still being tested.

On 10th July, a man visited Shin Kong Mitsukoshi in Tai Chung (Case No. 15341) and the male tutor was listed as a direct contact. The male tutor was quarantined at home before being tested positive on 12th July. He had CT value of 29.1, indicating that he has been infected for a period of time and he could be patient zero for the entire chain of transmission in Changhua County.

At first, the male tutor was not cooperative in the epidemic investigation. Assistance from police were sought by the Health Bureau to track his whereabouts from his mobile phone. A friend who helped the tutor move house on the 14th July also tested positive (Case No. 15428).

In addition, the male tutor slept with 5 different people with 10 days 6 times in 5 different hotel rooms in Taichung City from the 2nd to the 11th July. 64 related contacts have been listed, 58 of them have been tested negative, and 4 people are still being tested.
