Couple charged with manslaughter appear in court today, retired police officer continues to be remanded, wife released on HK$200,000 bail


1st December 2021 – (Hong Kong) A retired male policeman and his wife were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in Tuen Mun this Sunday (28th) when another van driver blocked their vehicle. They assaulted him and he succumbed to his injuries at hospital later.The police yesterday charged the two with one count of manslaughter. The case appeared in Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts today.

The Chief Magistrate adjourned the case until 26th January next year. The male defendant was ordered to be remanded in custody, while his wife was allowed to be released on a HK$200,000 bail while awaiting hearing. She must report one day a week. The two defendants do not need to respond for the time being, pending further investigation by the police, including exhibits, fingerprints and DNA tests while awaiting autopsy report. The male defendant’s bail application was rejected today and will be brought to court for bail review next Thursday (9th December).
