Convener of the Executive Council urges govt to cancel self-monitoring requirement for inbound arrivals to attract tourists

2nd October 2022 – (Hong Kong) Regina Ip, the convener of the Executive Council, said during a TV program today (2nd) that only the cancellation of the self-monitoring requirement can attract tourists. She also pointed out that mainland tourists account for the largest proportion of tourists and the government should relax border control requirements with the Mainland as soon as possible and she can see light at the end of the tunnel.

Regarding the government’s plan to arrange “pre-departure quarantine” for Hong Kong residents going to Mainland at the Lok Ma Chau Loop, she is worried that it will affect the technological development of the area. She explained that because the government’s term of office is five years, if the “pre-departure quarantine” measure takes one year, there will be only four years left. In the next four years, due to the rapid development of science and technology, it may affect the development of innovation and technology. The area was originally well connected with Shenzhen, and there will be San Tin Technopole in the future. She pointed out that she must find a solution.
