25th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has announced the closure of the ground floor of Sha Tin Town Hall until further notice due to concrete spalling. The incident was reported on 23rd March, when a cleaning worker noticed an abnormality in the false ceiling near the Administration Office in the female washroom area. Two pieces of concrete had fallen inside the false ceiling, but no one was injured in the incident.
The LCSD staff immediately arranged for an inspection of the area and found minor abnormalities on some of the ceiling above the corridor on the ground floor the following day. The area was immediately cordoned off for safety reasons. The LCSD has requested the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) to conduct a thorough inspection of the entire building premises, and the ArchSD officers have already arrived on the scene to assist with maintenance work.
The LCSD is taking this incident seriously and has closed the entire ground floor of Sha Tin Town Hall for urgent inspection. Affected hirers have been notified of the closure. The safety of staff and visitors is the top priority, and the LCSD is committed to ensuring that the premises are safe for everyone.
