8th June 2023 – (Beijing) The Director and General Manager of Beijing Huanqiu Construction, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Hu Jiyong, was caught in a public scandal when he was photographed with his mistress on the street. As a result, he was dismissed and subjected to company investigation.

The mistress, whose surname is Dong, is in her twenties and allegedly met Hu while working at CNPC after graduating with a master’s degree from China University of Petroleum in 2021. She was later transferred to Hu’s subsidiary in 2022, where she worked alongside Hu and his wife.

Netizens, however, discovered that Dong frequently shared her extravagant lifestyle on social media. She boasted about spending 2.4 million yuan on luxury bags and skincare products, purchasing three different colours of Tiffany’s diamond rings, staying in hotels that charge thousands of yuan per night, and leaving work every day at 4.30pm.

Dong also frequently shared photos of her athletic and fit body on social media, as well as some racy and artistic photos, indicating her love for fitness and hobbies.

Although Dong has since deleted or hidden her posts and photos on social media after the scandal broke, they were already saved and circulated by netizens.

The short clip was posted on Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, on Wednesday and quickly went viral, garnering millions of views.

Within hours of the video’s appearance, CNPC released a statement announcing that the man in the video, Mr. Hu, had been sacked from his job. The woman, Ms. Dong, was also fired. The statement did not provide any specific reason for the dismissals, but it is widely believed that the couple’s public display of affection was deemed inappropriate for employees of a state-owned enterprise.
