CHP confirms 60 new COVID-19 cases in HK including 7 new cases in a congee restaurant in Hung Hom (Updated: 4.55pm)


27th January 2021 – (Hong Kong) Dr.Chuang Shuk-kwan from Centre for Health Protection (CHP) announced at the daily 4.30pm conference today that there were 60 new COVID-19 cases (as of 12am today) consisting of 3 imported cases from Dubai, Kazakhstan and U.S. and 57 local cases. The local cases include 36 cases epidemiologically linked with previous cases and 21 local cases with unknown sources. Total cases in Hong Kong have reached 10,283 as of today. Total patients include 30 females and 30 males aged 11 – 88 years old. 18 cases were detected at community testing centres while 4 were detected during compulsory testing in the Yau Ma Tei area.

A total of 8 confirmed cases were detected at Block C of Tung Fat Building in North Point. 5 preliminary cases were recorded. A total of 8 units involving 13 patients have been recorded.

More buildings need to undergo compulsory testing today. They include apartment blocks in Tip Yee House in Butterfly Estate, 1 Wu Chui Road, Tuen Mun, Cheung Wan Building, 8-10 Ma Hang Chung Road, To Kwa Wan, Yee Man House, Ho Man Tin Estate, 68 Fat Kwong Street, Quarry Hill, Lynwood Court – Kingswood Villas Block 9, 3 Tin Kwai Road, Tin Shui Wai, Wah Hei House in Tung Hei Court, Sai Wan Ho. Buildings in the restricted area i.e. Man King Building on Man Wui Street, Jordan, Shanghai Mansion on Shanghai Street, 434, Shanghai Street and SHUN ON BUILDING on Tung On Street also need to undergo compulsory testing.

Meanwhile, residents of Hiu Fong House, Fung Wah Estate, Chai Wan need to undergo mandatory testing again.

6 confirmed cases including the chef, waiters and 1 preliminary case were detected at “Wing Ming” Congee Restaurant at Shop 18A, G/F, United Building, 1-7 Wu Kwong Street, Hung Hom. 4 of the 6 cases are family members. Other customers have been asked to undergo virus testing. More than 10 employees of the restaurant have been sent for testing.

A resident at Kin Ling Elderly Home tested positive. Another 1 preliminary case was also recorded.

Meanwhile, Dr. Lau Ka-hin from Hospital Authority (HA) announced that as of 9am today, existing 856 confirmed patients are being treated in 22 hospitals of the Hospital Authority and community facility at AsiaWorld Expo. Among them, 32 patients are in critical condition, 31 are in serious condition and the remaining 793 patients are in stable condition.

At present, public hospitals have put to use 1,220 negative pressure beds with a utilisation rate of 70% and 672 negative pressure wards have been put to use, with a utilisation rate of 77%.

As at 9am today, 61 COVID-19 confirmed patients were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours.  Three patients have passed away in the last 24 hours. A total of 169 cases and 1 probable case have passed away in public hospitals.

The deceased was 67-year-old male patient (Case no.7123) from United Christian Hospital who lived in Wo Kin House, Cheung Wo Court, Kwun Tong. He had a long-term illness. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment and diagnosed on the evening of the 7th of last month due to fever and upper abdominal pain. After that, the patient’s condition continued to deteriorate and he subsequently passed away at 8.26am today.

In addition, a 56-year-old female patient with a chronic illness was taken to the emergency department of Kwong Wah Hospital by ambulance yesterday (26th) morning because of shortness of breath. The patient’s heart failed on the way to the hospital. After arriving at the hospital, the medical staff immediately performed CPR and intubation treatment for her. The patient recovered and was admitted to the isolation ward for treatment. The patient was preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday afternoon, and her condition continued to deteriorate and she passed away at 4.22pm yesterday.
