Chinese University of Hong Kong tops U.S. News rankings for Best Global Universities in Hong Kong

25th June 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has emerged as the leading institution in the latest U.S. News rankings for the Best Global Universities in Hong Kong. CUHK achieved a remarkable global score of 77.5, securing its position as the fifth-best university in Asia and the 42nd globally.

CUHK’s success extended to subject-specific rankings as well. The university secured the third position in both education and education research, as well as gastroenterology and hepatology. Additionally, it claimed the eighth spot in artificial intelligence and the 12th spot in computer science.

The rankings were determined by evaluating 13 indicators with corresponding weight percentages, which measured the universities’ academic research performance, along with their global and regional reputations. Factors such as a school’s global and regional research reputation, accounting for 25 percent, and the number of highly cited publications, making up an additional one-eighth, were considered. Other indicators included books, conferences, total citations, and international collaboration.

The University of Hong Kong, the oldest institution in the city, secured the second position in the Best Global Universities in Hong Kong rankings. It also claimed the sixth position in Asia and the 44th position globally, with a commendable global score of 76.9. The University of Hong Kong excelled in the field of education and educational research. It also secured the second position in infectious diseases, the fourth position in microbiology, the 14th position in arts and humanities, and the 17th position in immunology.

Following CUHK and the University of Hong Kong, the rankings for Best Global Universities in Hong Kong included the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, and the Hong Kong Baptist University, securing the third to sixth positions, respectively.

PolyU excelled in civil engineering, securing the second position, while also claiming the fifth position in engineering and the sixth position in mechanical engineering. CityU secured the ninth position in condensed matter physics, materials science, and physical chemistry.

Rounding out the list were the Education University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University of Hong Kong, securing the seventh and eighth positions, respectively.
