14th November 2023 – A single father in China chose to donate his deceased daughter’s organs, giving a fresh lease of life to five individuals.

Deng Xingyan, a 20-year-old student at the Liuzhou Vocational and Technical College in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, tragically lost her life in a traffic accident on 27th October. She was merely a week away from embarking on a new stage in her life as an intern.

Despite desperate medical intervention, doctors declared Deng brain dead. On hearing the grim news, her father, Deng Lianfu, made the decision to donate his daughter’s organs.

Deng Lianfu, a single parent who had previously suffered the loss of his wife and elder son in a separate accident, shared his life with his mother and only remaining child. He described Xingyan as an exceptionally considerate young woman.

An architectural engineering student, Xingyan had once expressed her ambition to design a warm home for her family after graduation. Her father, clad in a blue shirt, recalled her as being “kind, vibrant and adorable”, always keen to lend a helping hand to others.

On 5th November, a grief-stricken Deng bid goodbye to his daughter, whose heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys were donated to five patients in need.

Speaking to mainland media outlet Dami Video, Deng revealed that numerous individuals had made financial contributions to attempt to save Xingyan’s life following the accident. He saw organ donation as a way to repay their kindness.

Deng expressed his hope that the recipients of the organ donations would thrive and “continue his daughter’s life”.

Social media users on Weibo were moved by Deng’s actions. “What a great father, still having such a great love after losing three close family members,” commented one observer. Another hoped that the recipients of the organs “will cherish their life and experience the beauty of the world together with her.”
