2nd September 2025 – (Hong Kong) Renowned Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei showcased 30 exquisite handcrafted pieces at Centrestage 2025, highlighting her collaboration with students from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The collection, titled “Gilternity: An Everlasting Radiance,” focuses on the luminous beauty of gold embroidery and marks a significant event in the fashion calendar.
Guo Pei’s illustrious career represents a pivotal moment in Chinese fashion history. As the first Chinese designer to be accepted into the esteemed Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, she has established herself as a visionary in haute couture. After presenting ten successful collections at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, she has taken a step back from the global spotlight to cultivate her creativity at a more personal pace.
Her ties to Hong Kong date back to 2010 when she participated in the HKTDC’s Hong Kong Fashion Week for the fall/winter season. This year, M+ hosted an exhibition titled “Guo Pei: Fashioning Imagination,” which concluded in April, offering local audiences an insight into her artistic vision. Now, Guo Pei’s bond with the city has deepened with her first solo fashion show at M+, which opened Centrestage this year.
During the opening ceremony, Guo Pei presented her exploration of eternal beauty through couture, emphasising the significance of gold in her creations. She explained in an Instagram video, “If love is a colour, what would it be? Red seems inadequate… it should be gold.”
The collection features 30 meticulously crafted pieces, each showcasing intricate embroidery that captures the essence of flowing molten gold. The opening piece was a collaborative effort with PolyU students, highlighting the potential of Hong Kong’s emerging design talent.
The event was broadcast live across various platforms, including the official Centrestage website. Following the show, Guo Pei will conduct an intimate masterclass on 4th September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, providing attendees with insights into her creative process.
The annual CENTRESTAGE ELITES event also took place at M+ yesterday, where Guo Pei’s “Gilternity: An Everlasting Radiance” collection invited audiences to engage with her unique blend of art and fashion. Local celebrities were spotted at the event.
As a pioneer in the industry, Guo Pei has showcased her work at Paris Fashion Week for a decade, merging Chinese cultural elements with global fashion narratives. Her designs have been worn by A-list celebrities, including Zhang Ziyi, Li Bingbing, and Rihanna, who famously donned Guo Pei’s iconic “Yellow Empress” gown at the Met Gala. Her creations not only elevate Chinese couture on the world stage but also transform fashion into a contemporary art form, exhibited in prominent museums around the globe.
