3rd June 2023 – (Beijing) Li Hui, the Chinese government’s special representative for Eurasian affairs, has suggested that his European counterparts should consider the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict and why Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine. Speaking at a news briefing of the China Public Diplomacy Association in Beijing following his international tour, Li invited his colleagues from European states to think hard about the issue and draw their own conclusions.
Li also explained the reasons for the special military operation, referring to Russia’s arguments that it was launched to protect the lives, property, and security of the people of Donbass. Regardless of the causes of the Ukrainian crisis, Li emphasized the need to restore peace as soon as possible through negotiations in a political way.
During his international tour, Li visited Ukraine, Poland, France, Germany, the EU headquarters, and Russia, where he met with diplomats from these countries, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The purpose of the trip was to discuss the Ukrainian conflict and find a path towards peace.
