Chinese Coast Guard forces Japanese vessels to leave disputed waters near Diaoyu Islands

28th November 2023 – (Beijing) Chinese authorities announced on Tuesday that the Japanese vessel “Ryusho-maru” and several patrol boats had illegally entered the disputed waters near the Diaoyu Islands, which are at the center of a sovereignty dispute between China and Japan. In response, Chinese Coast Guard vessels took necessary control measures in accordance with the law and issued warnings to drive them away.

The Chinese Coast Guard reiterated that the Diaoyu Islands and their affiliated islets are an inherent part of China’s territory. They emphasised that their Coast Guard vessels are conducting maritime law enforcement activities within their jurisdictional waters, and urged the Japanese side to immediately cease all illegal activities in the area, ensuring that similar incidents do not occur again.
