27th May 2023 – (Washington) Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng met with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Kent, Connecticut on Friday to express best wishes from the Chinese side on Dr. Kissinger’s 100th birthday. During the meeting, the two had an in-depth exchange of views on China-US relations, as well as international and regional issues of common interest.
The meeting comes at a time of heightened tension between China and the U.S., with both sides engaged in a trade war and increasingly hostile rhetoric. However, the meeting between Ambassador Xie and Dr. Kissinger highlights the importance of maintaining dialogue and engagement between the two countries.
Dr. Kissinger is a renowned diplomat and has played a key role in U.S. foreign policy, particularly in relation to China. He made a historic visit to China in 1971, paving the way for the normalisation of relations between the two countries.
