23rd May 2023 – (Geneva) 23-year-old Wu Yibing of China emerged victorious in a thrilling first-round match against Switzerland’s Marc-Andrea Huesler at the Geneva Open on Monday. Wu fought off a match point to win 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (6).

The first two sets were evenly matched, with each player winning one set each. In the third set, Huesler rallied to force a tie-breaker, which proved to be a nail-biting affair. Wu initially had the advantage, leading 3-0, but Huesler scored four consecutive points to take a 6-5 lead and earn a match point.

Undeterred, Wu showed remarkable resilience and fought back with three straight points to clinch the win and advance to the second round of the tournament. He will face off against Italy’s Marco Cecchinato in the next round.

Wu, who won his first ATP title at the Dallas Open in February, has been in good form this season and will be hoping to build on his recent success in Geneva. In addition to his victory in Dallas, he also reached the semi-finals of the ATP Challenger Tour event in Zhangjiagang earlier this month.
