20th February 2024 – (Beijing) China’s railway system witnessed a staggering number of passenger trips during the first 25 days of the Spring Festival travel rush, with more than 300 million journeys reported, according to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.

On Monday, the railway sector recorded 14.04 million passenger trips, surpassing the forecasted 13.3 million for Tuesday. Despite the conclusion of the Spring Festival holiday, the country’s railways continued to experience high traffic as students and migrant workers contributed to the ongoing surge in railway travel numbers.

In response to the increased demand, railway departments have introduced additional trains to accommodate travellers. They have also implemented proactive measures to address snowfall and freezing conditions in certain regions, ensuring a smooth and safe post-holiday travel experience.

The Spring Festival, celebrated on February 10 this year, is China’s most significant traditional festival. The Spring Festival travel rush, which commenced on January 26, will continue until March 5. This period marks a time when millions of people across the country embark on journeys to reunite with family and friends, making it one of the busiest travel seasons in China.
