16th September 2023 – (Beijing) According to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), mobile phone shipments in China exceeded 18.55 million units in July. Of these, 15.06 million units were 5G phones, indicating a 2.6 percent year-on-year increase. The CAICT, a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, released these figures.
Data from the CAICT revealed that total cellphone shipments for the first seven months of the year decreased by 5.1 per cent compared to the previous year, amounting to 148 million units.
In July, domestic brands continued to dominate the Chinese mobile phone market by accounting for 16.24 million units, representing 87.5 per cent of the total shipments.
The CAICT data also highlighted that 30 new cellphone models were introduced to the domestic market in July, marking a substantial 66.7 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
