China’s lottery ticket sales surge 59.3% yoy to US$6.65 billion in October

25th November 2023 – (Beijing) According to data released by the Ministry of Finance, China experienced a remarkable increase in lottery ticket sales in October, with a year-on-year surge of 59.3% to reach 47.34 billion yuan (approximately $6.65 billion). The data further revealed that sales of lottery tickets aimed at supporting the country’s welfare system reached 15.49 billion yuan, indicating a substantial increase of 40.9% (around 4.5 billion yuan) compared to the same period last year.

The Ministry of Finance also disclosed that sales of lottery tickets designated to support the sports industry witnessed an impressive growth of 70.1% year on year, surpassing 31.85 billion yuan.

In the first ten months of 2023, total lottery ticket sales in China amounted to 475.88 billion yuan, reflecting a significant year-on-year increase of 53%.

China’s lottery management rules dictate that the funds generated from ticket sales are allocated towards administrative expenses, public welfare projects, and prize distributions.
