China’s Defence Minister affirms non-targeted military cooperation with Russia at Moscow Conference on International Security

15th August 2023 – (Moscow) China’s Defence Minister Li Shangfu emphasized during the 11th Moscow Conference on International Security today that China’s military cooperation with Russia is not targeted at any third country.

According to Russian media outlet RIA Novosti, Li Shangfu stated that the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia has entered a new era of continuous and stable development. The military relationship between the two countries has established a cooperative paradigm based on non-alignment, non-confrontation, and non-targeting of third parties.

Li Shangfu expressed China’s readiness to enhance international cooperation in military control. He also highlighted China’s willingness to strengthen security work within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and enhance military cooperation with Iran and Belarus.

The 11th Moscow Conference on International Security took place today. The participants discussed global and regional stability issues as well as security concerns in various regions, including Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe. At the invitation of Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Li Shangfu, the State Councilor and Defense Minister of China, attended the conference in Russia.
