25th May 2023 – (Beijing) China’s Commerce Ministry spokesperson, Shu Jueting, announced on Thursday (25th May) that China’s Commerce Minister, Wang Wentao, will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) trade ministerial meeting on Thursday and Friday (26th May) where he will hold talks with the U.S. Commerce Secretary, Gina Raimondo, and Trade Representative, Katherine Tai. The discussions will focus on issues related to Sino-U.S. economic and trade relations as well as matters of mutual concern.
The APEC trade ministerial meeting will be held in Detroit, Michigan, and will be attended by trade officials from various countries. This meeting between Wang Wentao, Raimondo, and Tai will mark the first face-to-face meeting between the top officials of the two countries since the U.S. shot down a Chinese balloon earlier this year.
