30th May 2023 – (Beijing) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning has called on the United States to immediately correct its wrong practices and show sincerity for dialogue and communication between the two militaries. The comments came during a regular press briefing on Tuesday, where Mao addressed the difficulties facing China-US military dialogue.
Mao stated that the United States is aware of the reasons behind the obstacles to dialogue between the two militaries. The spokesperson also called on the US to respect China’s sovereignty, security, and interests, correct its wrong practices, and create the necessary atmosphere and conditions for dialogue and communication between the Chinese and US militaries.
The relationship between China and the U.S. has been strained in recent years, with tensions rising over issues such as trade, Taiwan, and the South China Sea. The two countries have also engaged in a war of words over the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and allegations of human rights abuses in Xinjiang.
The military relationship between China and the U.S. has also been affected by these tensions, with both sides engaging in military exercises and maneuveurs in the region. The US has also raised concerns over China’s military modernisation and increased assertiveness in the South China Sea.
China has consistently called for dialogue and communication between the two militaries as a means of reducing tensions and avoiding a potential conflict. However, the US has accused China of not being transparent about its military activities and has raised concerns over China’s increasing military capabilities.
