1st March 2024 – (Geneva) Chen Xu, the permanent representative of China to the United Nations Office in Geneva and other international organisations, reiterated China’s plea for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council. Chen emphasised that the current humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip demands urgent action from the global community and underscores the essential need for peace.

China is urging Israel to allow humanitarian organisations unhindered access to provide necessary resources for rescue missions in Gaza. Chen further stressed the importance of Israel’s compliance with the interim measures and directives set forth by the International Court of Justice.

In reaffirming China’s unwavering support for the just cause of the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate national rights, Chen strongly condemned the forced transfer of Palestinians and the occupation of Palestinian territory.
