3rd October 2026 – (Beijing) China has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of p‑nitrotoluene from the European Union, the Ministry of Commerce said, confirming the move followed an application lodged by domestic producers. A ministry spokesperson stated that preliminary evidence submitted by applicants indicated import volumes from the EU remained elevated between 2022 and 2025 while prices cumulatively fell by nearly 60 per cent, which the petition alleges inflicted material injury on Chinese manufacturers.
Officials said the filing met the thresholds for opening a case under Chinese anti-dumping legislation and World Trade Organization rules. The investigation will proceed in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, with authorities pledging to safeguard the procedural rights of all interested parties throughout the process.
The ministry described p‑nitrotoluene, also known as 4‑nitrotoluene, as an intermediate used widely in the production of chemicals for dyes, pigments, pesticides and pharmaceuticals. Further details on timelines and potential remedies were not immediately provided.
