China Manned Space Program delegation concludes Hong Kong visit with farewell ceremony

1st December 2023 – (Hong Kong) The China Manned Space Program delegation commenced a four-day visit to Hong Kong on Tuesday, with today marking the final day of their itinerary. The delegation started the day by boarding an open-top bus for a tour around Tsim Sha Tsui, followed by a visit to the Hong Kong Palace Museum. In the afternoon, the delegation attended a farewell ceremony hosted by the Hong Kong government at Government House before departing for Macao. Chief Executive John Lee, accompanied by members of the delegation, joined the event, where highlights of the delegation’s four-day visit to Hong Kong were showcased. Additionally, Chief Executive John Lee presented the delegation leader, Lin Xiqiang, Deputy Director General of the China Manned Space Program Office, with a photo album capturing the memorable moments of their visit.

During his speech, Chief Executive John Lee expressed his gratitude to the China Manned Space Program delegation for accepting his invitation and thanked the central government for their support and approval of the visit. He described the delegation’s infectious enthusiasm and charm as “out of this world” and highlighted their interactions with young people and students, which he believed would sow the seeds of inspiration. Chief Executive John Lee expressed his earnest hope for the realisation of Hong Kong’s dream of producing astronauts.

Lin Xiqiang, delegation leader and Deputy Director General of the China Manned Space Program Office, expressed his deep impression of the aspirations conveyed by the fourth batch of payload experts representing Hong Kong during this visit. Lin Xiqiang stated that efforts are being made to announce the results of the selection of prospective astronauts for the fourth batch of payload experts by the end of this year, in response to the fervent expectations of Hong Kong residents.

Eric Chan, Chief Secretary for Administration, accompanied the delegation leader and Deputy Director of the China Manned Space Engineering Office, Lin Xiqiang, along with other delegation members, to visit the “China Manned Space Engineering Exhibition.”
