China clinches eighth consecutive men’s table tennis team title at Hangzhou Asian Games

26th September 2023 – (Hangzhou) China secured its eighth consecutive men’s team title at the Hangzhou Asian Games with a commanding 3-0 victory over South Korea. The Chinese team, renowned for its dominance in the sport, showcased their exceptional skills and reaffirmed their status as the powerhouse of table tennis on Tuesday.

Having defeated Chinese Taipei 3-0 in the semi-finals, China entered the title showdown with confidence. Wang Chuqin set the tone for the final match by defeating Lim Jong-hoon of South Korea with a score of 3-1. Wang claimed the first set 11-9, but Lim fought back and won the second set 11-8. Undeterred, Wang showcased his mastery by clinching the next two sets with scores of 11-5 and 12-10, securing a crucial victory for China.

Fan Zhendong, the top-ranked player in the world, further solidified China’s lead with a dominant performance against An Jae-hyun of South Korea. Fan’s exceptional skills were on full display as he triumphed with a flawless 3-0 victory, winning sets 11-6, 12-10, and 11-3. His commanding display demonstrated why he is considered one of the best in the sport and contributed significantly to China’s path to victory.

The final blow came from the experienced Ma Long, who faced Park Gang-hyeon of South Korea. Ma exhibited his exceptional technique and tactical acumen, outplaying his opponent in every set. With a remarkable 3-0 victory, Ma secured the final point for China with scores of 11-3, 12-10, and 11-6. His contribution to the team’s triumph underscored his reputation as a table tennis legend.
