24th August 2026 – (Beijing) China has appealed for the parties in the Middle East and the Gulf to return to dialogue and negotiation at the earliest opportunity, arguing that sanctions and coercion only inflame tensions and jeopardise economic and financial stability worldwide. Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered the message in Beijing during talks with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al‑Ahmad Al‑Sabah, calling de‑escalation the immediate priority and urging all sides to exercise rationality and restraint.
Wang said China places great value on relations with Kuwait and intends to use the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties as a springboard to deepen cooperation, including efforts to safeguard the security of international waterways. He noted that China would continue to follow developments closely and take necessary steps to protect its legitimate rights and interests, while reiterating support for a political solution through dialogue rather than additional pressure.
Kuwait’s foreign minister expressed appreciation for China’s longstanding support, reaffirmed Kuwait’s adherence to the one‑China principle and said his country is ready to work with Beijing to restore security and stability across the region. Beijing’s emphasis on diplomacy comes amid continued strains affecting energy markets and maritime routes, with both sides voicing support for coordinated efforts to reduce risks and rebuild confidence.
Wang Yi currently serves as China’s foreign minister and a member of the Communist Party’s Politburo, while Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al‑Ahmad Al‑Sabah was appointed Kuwait’s foreign minister by Amiri decree on 1st February 2026, following his previous role as deputy foreign minister. Their talks in Beijing on 24th August 2026 were reported by official channels in both countries.
