7th December 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Chief Justice’s Residence at the Final Court of Appeal is seeking to hire a Chief Chef. The position comes with high entry requirements and offers a starting salary of HK$30,000. What makes this opportunity particularly appealing is the fact that it is a civil service appointment.

Entry Requirements:
(a) Minimum of 9 years’ experience as a chef in large households, clubs, hotels, or high-end restaurants.
(b) Excellent culinary skills in both Chinese and Western cuisines, including proficient food presentation techniques.
(c) Ability to supervise other kitchen staff effectively.
(d) Effective communication skills in both Chinese and basic English.
(e) Pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST).

The Chief Chef will primarily be responsible for the preparation of meals and the management and supervision of kitchen staff at the Chief Justice’s Residence. This includes:

(a) Preparing food and providing cooking service for the Chief Justice, his family, and guests.
(b) Providing meals for official and social functions held at the Residence and other locations as required.
(c) Managing other kitchen staff at the Residence.
(d) Designing menus and assisting with food and ingredient procurement.
(e) Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, including food handling, kitchen cleaning, and maintenance of cooking utensils.

The Chief Chef will be required to wear a uniform and work irregular hours and overtime, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays. If necessary, the Chief Chef may be required to stay overnight at the Residence located at the Peak. The Residence is accessible by public transport.

Successful candidates will be appointed on civil service agreement terms for a period of three years. Upon satisfactory completion of the full agreement period with a consistently high standard of performance and conduct, a gratuity may be granted. The gratuity payable will be equivalent to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the agreement period, including the Government’s contribution to the Mandatory Provident Fund scheme. Candidates who demonstrate outstanding performance throughout the three-year agreement period may be considered for appointment on prevailing permanent terms.
