3rd August 2025 – (Hong Kong) Cheung Sha Wan’s Fok Ko Cha Kee, located at G/F, 318-320 Un Chau Street, Cheung Sha Wan, garnered attention for closing down just two days after its grand opening. Upon investigation on 3rd August, reporters found the restaurant shut, with a notice of “Interior Renovation” posted on the outer pillars. Inside, a Mandarin-speaking woman was seen gathering items, declining to respond to the reporter’s inquiries.
Neighbours revealed that the establishment, previously known for serving “Guangdong Roasted Delights,” opted to shut down due to high rental costs, subsequently passing the business on to a Mainland Chinese individual who rebranded it as Fok Ko Cha Kee. Nearby vendors recalled having breakfast at the eatery during its initial days, noting the high prices and taste as factors that might have led to its swift closure.
Local reporters observed the scene at Fok Ko Cha Kee for approximately half an hour, capturing locals taking pictures of the closed gates. Street residents shared insights into the brief operation of Fok Ko Cha Kee and its transition from the previous Cantonese-style eatery, citing expensive rentals as a contributing factor to the closure.
Customers who patronised Fok Ko Cha Kee voiced complaints online about delayed service, with one individual waiting over an hour for their order. This incident led to discussions online about the quality of service and food, with some remarking that delays in serving meals could indicate a departure from using pre-prepared dishes.
