4th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) A 38-year-old chess tutor has pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl who was 12 when they first had sex and 13 when they later met at a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel, a court heard today.
Chan Kwun-hong admitted one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 16. The offences spanned a date in December 2024 to 6th April 2025 and took place at a flat in Lung Tsai Village on Cheung Chau and in a room at The Loop Hotel in Granville Building on Granville Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Two further under-16 intercourse counts originally faced by the defendant were left on the court file.
Deputy District Judge Terence Wai, sitting at Tsuen Wan Magistrates’ Courts temporarily as the District Court, adjourned case DCCC 1544/2025 to 2nd October for sentence. The court will obtain a psychological report on the defendant and a trauma report on the girl, known as X. Chan remains in custody.
According to the facts, X was only 12 in 2024 when she met Chan through friends at a role-playing event. They later became a couple. On a date that December they had sex for the first time in the bedroom of his Cheung Chau home. X told him she was 15 and was said to have taken the initiative; a condom was used. Only later that same month did she reveal she was in fact 12.
Despite learning her true age, the relationship continued. In January 2025 X’s family invited Chan to their home for her 13th birthday. He wrote her a love letter, wished her a happy 13th birthday and expressed concern about her mental health. On 14th and 16th March, after she had turned 13, they had sex again in a room at The Loop Hotel, using condoms and staying between two and four hours. X later took emergency contraception. In one encounter a condom broke, prompting her to take the morning-after pill.
X’s mother learned of the sexual contact that same month and confronted Chan. He admitted he knew X was underage and that what he had done was against the law. He was arrested on 11th April last year.
When the judge asked about the birthday invitation, the defence said the couple’s dating relationship had been open to the family, but relatives did not know physical intimacy had occurred. Counsel added that Chan had been remanded since his arrest in April, had completed an indoor computer design course in prison and hoped to rebuild his life. Relatives and friends had also written letters seeking leniency.
