17th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) A drug trafficking operation was intercepted at Hong Kong International Airport after approximately four kilograms of suspected cannabis buds, with an estimated market value of around HK$850,000, were found hidden within the baggage of an arriving passenger. The 55-year-old man, who had flown into the city from Bangkok, Thailand, was subjected to routine inspection by Customs officers, leading to the discovery of the illicit substances inside his carry-on luggage.
Following the seizure, the individual was promptly arrested and has subsequently been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The case is scheduled to be heard at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on 18th August.
Hong Kong Customs has reaffirmed its commitment to combatting drug trafficking through continued enforcement and intelligence-led operations. Authorities are urging the public to remain cautious, warning against taking on any role in drug smuggling for financial gain. Officials have underscored the risks of accepting items on behalf of others or carrying unknown articles through customs.
