7th June 2023 – (Kandal) Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has commended the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) for its significant contribution to the country’s infrastructure development. Speaking during a meeting with CRBC’s President Du Fei in Phnom Penh, Hun Sen expressed his satisfaction with the company’s presence in Cambodia for over 20 years, stating that it has greatly contributed to the country’s infrastructure development.

The CRBC is responsible for developing the 187-km Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, which has been in operation since October 2020. On Wednesday, the company also began construction on a 135.1-km expressway that will connect Phnom Penh with Svay Rieng province’s Bavet City on the border with Vietnam.

Hun Sen praised these expressways as a result of the cooperation between Cambodia and China under the Belt and Road Initiative. He also highlighted the role of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway in boosting local economic growth and tourism development.

Du Fei thanked Hun Sen for supporting the CRBC and granting the company rights to conduct feasibility studies for the construction of the expressway from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap province and the expressway from Siem Reap to Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet City on the border with Thailand. He noted that the company will send its experts to carry out feasibility studies for the two expressway projects in the near future.
