9th June 2024 – (Hong Kong) Chelsea Manalo, a proud native of the Philippine province of Bulacan, bested 52 other hopefuls from across the country to win the coveted Miss Universe Philippines title. Succeeding Miss Universe Philippines 2023’s Michelle Dee, Manalo will now represent the Philippines in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in Mexico, with hopes of bringing home the country’s fifth Miss Universe crown.

Before the coronation night, the beauty queen shared outtakes from a photoshoot inspired by the iconic Filipino painting “La Bulakenya” (The Woman from Bulacan) by Juan Luna. In the photos, she wore a glamorous version of the traditional Terno dress, with butterfly sleeves accentuated by gold floral embroideries – a nod to her Bulacan roots.

“Chelsea is proud of her hometown, Bulacan, and she made sure to make the province shine throughout her Miss Universe Philippines journey,” the report noted.

During the competition, Manalo, who graduated in 2022 with a degree in Tourism Management from De La Salle Araneta University, effortlessly showcased her intellect, talent and wit. She opened up about the challenges she faced as a woman of colour in the Philippines, where beauty standards have long favoured Eurocentric features.

Alongside her advocacy for body positivity, Manalo is also a champion of youth education, particularly for indigenous communities in the Philippines. This commitment to social impact has resonated with many Filipinos, who are eager to see her represent the nation on the global stage.

As Chelsea Manalo prepares to compete in the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, scheduled to take place in September, she will undoubtedly be carrying the hopes and dreams of the entire nation. Her victory has ignited a sense of pride and excitement among Filipinos, who are eager to see their country’s fifth Miss Universe crown.

“The Miss Universe pageant isn’t just a competition; it’s a national celebration that unites the entire nation in passion and pride,” said one local commentator. “With the crowning of a new Miss Universe Philippines queen, you can count on every Filipino rallying behind her with unwavering support.”
